Part 1: The winter wonderland
Prologue
(After
the events of chapter 7)
The wind blew hard and the snow chilled to
the bone. But Jamie felt nothing. In fact not even the pain of his weak body
grabbed his attention. He tried to stop his stiff legs from going on, he just
wanted to collapse on the floor, but his body had other ideas. He stumbled
helplessly up to the top of the gloomy cliff. This disease or whatever it was,
was controlling his mind. Suddenly a man appeared out of the
snow.
“Jamie, oh Jamie.” It was the doctor “You
must stop! It is controlling you. Please tell me there is still part of you that
can hear me. My boy you must hold on. Remember the thoughts that you hold dear.”
A tear fell from Jamie’s eyes as he approached the edge of the
cliff.
“No Jamie!” The doctor shouted as he ran
desperately to him. But he was too late. As if a bullet had gone straight through
him, Jamie fell.
Chapter 1: Jamie’s treat
(2 hours before)
Jamie Mccrimmon’s day didn’t start that well. Firstly Zoe had accidently dislocated
her arm when she was skiing with him on the Swedish hills and secondly they all
had to rush to the nearest hospital meaning their day out was ruined. Now they
were waiting in a Swedish hospital
with no clue of what anyone was saying waiting to see if Zoe was
alright.
“Well this is grand. Just grand” Jamie
huffed in a roar Scottish accent. He was in his usual pale top and his
traditional Scottish skirt. His hair was long and black like a scared witch’s
cat. The man next to him, the doctor, was an even more mess. He wore a baggy top
safely tucked into his baggy trousers accompanied with a long baggy jacket. Even
his hair could be described as black and baggy. Both of them stared straight in
front of them grumpily as tables and wheelchairs were pulled endlessly to
different rooms. After 15 minutes of waiting a woman finally appeared. She stood
proudly in a white top and trousers. She was wearing red lipstick and her blonde
hair was wrapped neatly in a bow.
“Ze results are in” she
said
The doctor darted up of his seat “Well then
how is she?” The doctor questioned ferociously “I demand to
know!”
“I am sorry. Ve vill have the keep her in
for a few more days.” The doctor sat back down on his seat with a very grumpy
face.
“Oh great. One bad thing after another.
Come on doctor lets go.” Jamie said. The doctor and Jamie left the hospital out
onto the car park and into the Tardis (Time And Relative Dimension In Space).
The Tardis looked like a 60’s police box; it was covered in a unique blue paint
with illuminating windows and a small lamp on the top as if it were the cherry
on a perfect cake. The doctor pulled out a key from his pocket and shoved it
into the keyhole of the Tardis followed by twisting it clockwise and opening the
door with a load CREEEEK.
As the doctor stepped into the huge room he
took off his black jacket and hung it on a coat hanger that stood tall against
the doorway. The walls of the Tardis were patterned with round circles and
bright lights flashed everywhere giving it a look that made it seem it was from
the future, even though it was really an ancient relic from a long lost planet
that got destroyed many years ago. Jamie leant against the Tardis console with
his chin to his chest and fiddling with a loose bit of string from his
shirt.
“There now Jamie, I’m sure she’ll be
alright soon” The doctor reassured. Jamie
huffed.
“How about some music to cheer you up.” The
doctor pulled out his flashy recorder and began to play a soft tune. 3 blind
mice (One of the only things he ever played)
“Oh no” Jamie said covering his ears “don’t
you think that’s a wee bit to load. You’re only making the situation worse.” The
doctor stopped playing. He was just standing there like a useless tool. The
doctor had never seen Jamie like this and felt sorry for him so he leaped to the
console flicking random switches that made mechanical sounds like
Click! and Whiiiir! .
“So where are we going. To fetch Zoe when
she gets out of hospital I presume.” Jamie
asked
“No Jamie. I think you deserve a proper day
out with no interferences. It can be our little secret. I heard the annual snow
festivals on the moon N-Space-9.3 are meant to be
entertaining.”
Jamie’s face light up with glee as he ran
excitedly to fetch a thick jumper to put over his shirt and the doctor ,after
fiddling with buttons and switches, fetched a large Eskimo coat that made him
look like a woolly mammoth.
After a quick change the doctor pulled a
lever that, unlike the other buttons, made a loud whirring noise. This was the
Tardis taking off.
In the calm car park a solitary sparrow spied a deep blue
police box vanish of into the distance, distracting it from the large worm it
was about to catch.
Chapter 2: N-Space-9.3
“Smooth trip, how unusual” said
Jamie.
“What do you mean unusual, I am a great
flyer!” Shouted the doctor.
Jamie chuckled to
himself.
“Well I’m glad you’ve got that smile on
your face again, even if it is because of my piloting.” He smiled again, but it
soon turned into a shocked face as the Tardis crashed! BANG, PUFF, BING! The
lights soon faded into ultimate
darkness.
“Jamie! Are you alright?” The doctor
questioned.
“Well I would be if you weren’t standing on
my hand!” The doctor got up off the floor and pulled out a torch from his inside
pocket.
“Ah. That’s better. Come along Jamie. She
needs to rest” He said stroking the walls of his ship.
“How about we take a look outside, there’s
a good boy.” The doctor and Jamie walked outside to find themselves next to a
huge mountain of snow.
“Oh doctor, you’ve got us in the wrong
place. Again” He huffed.
“My dear boy, what we see does not always
tell us where we are”
“What do you mean?” Jamie
asked.
“Well we see that we are on one side of a
snow mountain”. Jamie nodded.
“Well what matters is what is on the other
side of the mountain” The doctor continued. They both walked to the peak. They
looked but could not see any signs of life or a snow festival. Jamie
sighed.
“Come on lets go” he said just as they
heard a firework go off in front of them.
The doctor stopped Jamie from walking any
further. He told Jamie to follow him down the mountain, and out of the mist they
saw the festival they had been looking for. As they walked through the crowds of
humanoid aliens (These aliens had fur on the sides of their ears and chins. They
also had giant dreadlocks that came down to their shoulders) they saw tents full
of fascinating exhibits and arenas where courageous aliens tamed bears, wolves
and buffalo. Crowds of people around sweet and merchandise stands pushed and
fought to get gifts before they sold out. Everything was teaming with life, more
than the doctor and Jamie had expected, but this was a very special event for
that year was in fact the 1000th year since the war of
N-space-9.3. The doctor had mentioned this to Jamie later that day when
they were in one of the many tents looking at ancient
exhibits.
“So doctor, what exactly did happen? Why
have a snow festival?”
“Well Jamie, It all started long ago when
this very moon when it had no snow. There was once a king of the Ice warriors.
He was the first in a long line if rebellious creatures to have supersize and
strength. They soon knew this was the perfect leader and warrior. They made him
armour of emeralds and praised him as their god. One day the ice warriors came
here. To destroy this moon. But the inhabitants of this moon weren’t going to
give up that easily. They fought the ice warriors and eventually, they won. They
imprisoned the king’s soul inside the very snow itself. It snowed hard that day
and forever more.”
“Wow!” Jamie exclaimed “Hey you should take
up story telling someday.” The doctor chuckled and left the tent leaving Jamie
to wonder around the museum a bit more. Suddenly he heard a slight rumbling
sound coming from way off in the distance. Jamie could tell by the doctor’s face
that this was bad. Very bad. All of a sudden vast groups of snow came crashing
into their faces, sending the doctor flying back. The devastating wind made it
almost impossible to stand up. Rounds of endless snow covered the entire fence
and came pelting into their faces. Layers of freezing snow were trapping the
doctor, and just as he thought that all hope was lost a firm hand pulled
him into a small box where the snow could not harm them. ‘Cold, so very cold’
the doctor thought as he felt his mind slip away into ultimate darkness.
Chapter 3: The doctor investigates
‘Cold, cold, so cold. No, don’t stop just get up.’ He was unconscious. His only company was his mind and the blurry images of his past.
“Doctor, doctor!” Jamie shrugged him hard.
“Oh dear oh dear, my head.” The doctor murmured.
“Oh thank god” Jamie said relived that he was alive. The doctor began to move his arms around and twitch his legs but with a sudden gasp he lept of the ground and started jumping around uncontrollably. He started saying random things like “tee” and “Glop”. Jamie saw this happening and with one final yell he smacked the doctor on the head and as if nothing had happened he stood up straight and still.
“What on Earth was that doctor?” Jamie asked
“Well I was getting the snow out of my system and analysing it” he replied.
“Really?” Jamie questioned.
“Really” The doctor confirmed. His companion stood confused but the doctor slouched casually as if what he had just done was completely normal.
“If my theory is correct then that snowstorm was there on purpose”
“You mean someone deliberately sent a horde of flying snow towards us?” The doctor nodded.
“But why?” He ignored it like he wasn’t supposed to answer. The doctor knew immediately what he had to do, there was no alternative. He was to track down the things that caused the weather. Not just because a fair was closed, but every single person on that moon was in danger. He had to know what he was up against. His instincts told him who it could be. He sincerely hoped his instincts were wrong.
He had to run. With an entire moon at red alert the doctor had to go fast before anymore incoming threats awaited them.
“Doctor let me come with you!” Jamie pleaded to the doctor, who was packing up ready to go.
“Jamie, if I get lost. Or I get killed in another snowstorm and you are at my side when it happens. I could never forgive myself. You must stay here where it’s safe and warm. I must do this alone.” As much as Jamie disagreed he knew that he was doing the right thing. The doctor turned away and walked without fear into the wilderness of snow.
The town was now out of sight. All the doctor could see was a vast landscape of white and blue. He trudged through the soft snow holding a tracker device in his hand. The doctor continued to wonder but made a sudden halt as soon as he felt the hard and slippy ground underneath him, unlike the gentle floor he was walking on before. The doctor bent down and began to rub away a patch of snow that revealed a large area of crystal blue ice. Suddenly a crack formed in the ice and the ground became uneven. The doctor felt his legs slip away and the ice shattered into many pieces that fell directly down to a hard floor along with the doctor that was decorated with metal and bits of snow. He fell on his back but was not hurt… badly. He pulled himself of the ground and looked around. He fell a great distance; he would need a rope to climb back up to the surface so he had no choice but to look around. And that was exactly what he did. The walls were futuristic and small lights flashed dimly, but no one could be prepared for what he saw next. A snake-like hiss echoed through the icy tunnels. The doctor gulped as he tip toed quietly to where it was coming from. He lifted up his tracker device that beeped consistently when it was pointing to the location of the hissing. Carefully he peeked round a cold corner to see a 3 blocks of ice. The doctor moved closer and felt the ice blocks, examining them.
“The hissing, it’s coming from inside there” He said as he accidentally knocked a metal cube of a box. The clash it made as it hit the floor made a terrible racket.
“Uh oh…” Shadows in the ice blocks began to move slowly and with a sudden SMASH a bulky, green fist slammed through the ice sending pieces of razor sharp icicles everywhere. In a flash all the ice blocks began to break away revealing three tall green figures standing strong. The one in the middle lifted its head towards the petrified doctor. The enemy had revealed itself. The Ice Warriors had returned, with a vengeance.
